It makes a very useful point about the extent to which young people are left to their own devices when planning their career support. I understand that initiative is part of the learning process, but I think the challenge for all employers and educators is to at least explain the “rules of the game” beforehand. How an applicant resolves certain issues is indicative of their value to the employer (in the long run), and the sooner an applicant “gets this” and works out how to add value to the employer, the better.
